Sex Trafficking Poster

Inspiration:
Our inspiration came from the images we saw from the previous year on the walls in the classroom. The images of the "We the Resilient" poster led us to mix a single focused subject with a cool photoshop effect. The "We the People" posters used background effects with lots of color and brightness. Although the assignment was not based on a solemn and bleak poster we realized the poster should be on the darker to emphasize the darkness surrounding the global problem of sex trafficking.

Final Draft
Blake and I had a very hard time determining our main focus for the project until about day 3 of the assignment due to the fact that we had our eyes set on a gloomy and offtopic version seen in the google doc from Ideation Day. We were trying to mix too many things such as opioids and prisons into an unrealistic composition that reflected things associated with sex trafficking. After viewing a few of Blakes sketches o portrait style images of women we choose to keep it simple and use a neat photoshop effect with a focused subject. We stole from the poster of John Lenon by creating a multi-layer portrait image of a woman from Unsplash. We had to fix things such as the highlights and midtones of the portrait copy because it affected the text by making it eligible from the black background layer. Afte this, we made the text more fore flush with the margin tool and closer together by altering the text space. Next, we altered the spacing of the text to make it look more like the other side of the face by putting "to" and "be" on the same line.

Self Critique: I would have liked to use a double exposure effect on the portrait image but as you know, it is difficult to do with a black background. Also, I now realize we could have used negative space in the image by not only focusing the image but centralizing it so it would be seen as a woman all alone in a dark room. This is similar to the darkness that envelopes one's psyche in a sex trafficking environment
